The Sunnyside Blue Devils had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against Sahuarita as Sunnyside made off with a 77-57 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
XAVIER LEYVA was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with three steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. MANUEL MORENO was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Sahuarita's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alejandro Vega, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Durazo, who scored 16 points.
The victory got Sunnyside back to even at 7-7. As for Sahuarita, they bumped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Sunnyside will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Canyon del Oro at 3:30 p.m. on December 28th. Sahuarita will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
