It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Greene County Wildcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 55-47 victory over Poplarville. 55 seems to be a good number for Greene County as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Greene County was led to victory by Rakhiya Moody and Kam Lawrence. Moody scored seven points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Lawrence dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Moody is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. ShaNya McLeod was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Poplarville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiyah Jones, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleah Bester, who scored 11 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Greene County and bumps their season record up to 14-14. As for Poplarville, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-16.
Greene County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Bay at 4:00 p.m. on February 8th. Bay will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something Greene County surely won't give up without a fight. Poplarville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
