Make it four blowout wins for the Meeker Cowboys this season. They put the hurt on Gunnison with a sharp 54-28 win on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Meeker has posted since November 30, 2023.
Meeker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reese Clatterbaugh, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Rylee Sullivan was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.
Despite the loss, Gunnison had strong showings from Sienna Gomez, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals, and Yaslin Hernandez, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Vincent, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Gunnison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meeker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Gunnison, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Meeker will head out on the road to challenge Cedaredge at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Cedaredge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. As for Gunnison, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Roaring Fork at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Carly Crownhart and Gomez.
