Pine River Area waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Houghton Lake Bobcats get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Bucks have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Nelson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Mariah Johnson looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Emma Byrnes and Raegan Wanstead did most of the damage at the plate: Byrnes went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wanstead got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Wanstead has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Mumby, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Pine River Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houghton Lake only posted an OBP of .000.
Pine River Area's win bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Houghton Lake, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Pine River Area will venture away from home to take on Montabella at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Houghton Lake, they will challenge Grayling at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.82 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
