Softball Recap: Liberty Has No Trouble Against Illini West

Liberty had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Illini West on Saturday. The Eagles blew past the Chargers 9-2. Considering the Eagles have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Andi Mixer and Ava Heming did most of the damage at the plate: Mixer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Heming scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs Heming has posted over her last 12 contests. Camdyn Ormond was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Illini West only posted a batting average of .136.

Liberty's record now sits at 10-3. As for Illini West, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Coming up, Liberty will take on Hamilton in a tournament on Saturday. The Eagles are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Illini West, they will welcome Carrollton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
