The Mt. Vernon Rams stacked  an  11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They blew past Althoff Catholic 69-37 at home. The  victory was familiar territory for Mt. Vernon who now have three in a row.
 Mt. Vernon got their  victory on the backs of several key players, but it was  Tiara Johnson out in front who  scored 19 points along with eight  assists and eight  steals. That's the first time this season that  Johnson  posted eight or more   assists. Another player making a difference was  Melaina Zedalis, who  scored 21 points along with four  steals.
 When it comes to explaining why Althoff Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is  Emilee Travnicek. Despite the final result, she  dropped  a double-double on 11 points and ten  rebounds.  Gabby Orlet was another key contributor,  scoring four points.
 Mt. Vernon is  on a roll lately: they've  won 14 of their last 15 matchups,  which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Althoff Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
 Mt. Vernon will face off against Cairo at 5:30  p.m.  on Monday. Cairo will have to bring their A-game into this one,  as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 42nd). Althoff Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Freeburg at 7:30  p.m.  on January 16th. Freeburg will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
