The George Wythe Maroons had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They walked away with a 69-58 win over Fort Chiswell. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Fort Chiswell lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Blair Jackson, who scored 21 points along with five assists. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 19 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sadie Robinson, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
George Wythe's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Fort Chiswell, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Wythe will face off against the Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grayson County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Maroons are ranked 58th). As for Fort Chiswell, they will head out on the road to challenge the Maroon Tide at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
