Corn Belt recap October 29, 2013
Pontiac scaled the state rankings by moving to 301 from 343 this week, the biggest jump in Corn Belt. The Indians climbed the ranks as a result of besting Kankakee 41-14.
University extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cahokia, 63-6. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Jordan Spangler threw for 107 yards and 8 touchdowns. He went 8-18 with 1 interception.
Joe Kenney provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Mahomet-Seymour beat Effingham. He completed 9 passes for 127 yards and 4 touchdowns and also ran for 30 yards. Kenney's key target this week was Cully Day, who caught 5 passes for 82 yards.
Spangler put up the best numbers in passing as Prairie Central lost to Illinois Valley Central. Spangler's favorite target this week was Hayden Wenger, who caught 2 passes for 66 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Kenney of the Bulldogs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,729. He has also thrown 21 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Cory Hartema. The Central Catholic star has 37 catches for 703 yards.
Mahomet-Seymour's Tyler Francisco needs only 27 yards against Manteno next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 117 carries Francisco has accumulated 973 yard this year.
University took down the Comanches 63-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
