Klein Oak came out on top against Fort Bend Elkins by a score of 51-40 on Thursday. Given Klein Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Fort Bend Elkins is ranked 664th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Klein Oak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiana Vega led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was Vega's third in a row with at least ten points. Sophia Mireles was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Despite the loss, Fort Bend Elkins still got an impressive performance from Paris Anderson, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Trusclair, who scored eight points.
Klein Oak is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Fort Bend Elkins, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
