Baseball Recap: Pawhuska Has No Trouble Against Caney Valley

Pawhuska's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Caney Valley Trojans 12-2. For the Huskies, this counts as revenge for the 12-0 win the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

Logan Cass and Corlin Cass made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Cass struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Corlin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Logan has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cass went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Corlin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Corlin has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Canyon Hindman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pawhuska's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lane Kyler, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Pawhuska always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caney Valley only posted an OBP of .474.

Pawhuska's record now sits at 8-11. As for Caney Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Pawhuska will be playing in front of their home fans against Tonkawa at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Buccaneers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Huskies surely won't give up without a fight. Caney Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
