The Wilmot Panthers will head out to challenge the St. Joseph Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
On Thursday, Wilmot came up short against Elkhorn and fell 6-3. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Elks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Wilmot saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chance Ruby, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph entered their tilt with Martin Luther on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 24-10 margin over the Spartans. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Lancers, who until this matchup were averaging 3.4 runs allowed.
Zach Rizzo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Dominic Santarelli was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, he posted four RBI, the most he's had since back in April. Chris Kenesie was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
St. Joseph was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.
St. Joseph pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilmot, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
