The St. Edward Beavers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 50-43 to Burwell. St. Edward lost against Burwell in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-43 score last time.
Despite the loss, St. Edward still got an impressive performance from Anthony Reader, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Reader's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Marcos Paez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six steals.
Even though they lost, St. Edward were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Edward's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. As for Burwell, their victory bumped their record up to 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Edward will be home for the holidays to greet Elba at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elba is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Burwell won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Anselmo-Merna on December 16th. Anselmo-Merna is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
