Basketball Recap: Aymee Medina and Mariana Mathis Secure Win for Sierra Linda

After losing to Copper Canyon the last time they met, Sierra Linda decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Sierra Linda Bulldogs walked away with a 38-31 victory over the Copper Canyon Aztecs on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Sierra Linda was led to victory by Mariana Mathis and Aymee Medina. Mathis posted 13 points, while Medina dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Medina a new career-high. Sophya Goire was another key player, putting up seven points.

Sierra Linda now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Copper Canyon, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

When Sierra Linda and Copper Canyon next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Sierra Linda will try to stop Estrella Foothills' six-game winning streak when the meet at 9:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Copper Canyon will try to stop Kellis' eight-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
