The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers will challenge the Central Cambria Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Central Cambria will be up against a hot Philipsburg-Osceola squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Philipsburg-Osceola blew past Hollidaysburg 13-5 on Thursday. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.
Zach Yoder made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Philipsburg-Osceola let Parker Lamb and Sam McDonald run wild. Lamb went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while McDonald scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-5. What's more, McDonald posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Zac Wagner was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Central Cambria made easy work of Blacklick Valley last Wednesday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The Red Devils have beaten the Vikings the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.
Like Philipsburg-Osceola, Central Cambria also got a great game from a two-way player: JD Brouse. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brouse was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Blake Coposky was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Grady Snyder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Philipsburg-Osceola's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Central Cambria, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Philipsburg-Osceola was able to grind out a solid win over Central Cambria in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-2. Does Philipsburg-Osceola have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Cambria turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
