There's no place like home for the Poinciana Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past Liberty 63-37. Given Poinciana's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Liberty is ranked 552nd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poinciana got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Devin Williams out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hakeem Alvena, who scored 11 points along with two blocks.
Camryn Irvin and Genola Thermozier certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Irvin scored seven points, while Thermozier scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Poinciana's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Liberty, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Mater Brighton Lakes Academy the next time they take the court. Liberty will host Mater Brighton Lakes Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Poinciana will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
