Weeki Wachee hasn't had much luck against Crystal River recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hornets will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Weeki Wachee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Weeki Wachee is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Zephyrhills on Friday. They lost 8-1 to the Bulldogs.
Weeki Wachee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austyn Childs, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Crystal River entered their tilt with Trenton on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Tigers.
Violet Flynn made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Athena Childs was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kinley Norcross, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Crystal River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Crystal River's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Weeki Wachee, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Weeki Wachee's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Hornets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Crystal River, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Weeki Wachee continue to outrun the ball?
