After flying high against the Beech Grove Hornets last Wednesday, the Southport Cardinals came back down to earth. Southport took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Terre Haute North Vigo on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Southport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Terre Haute North Vigo is ranked 41st).
Southport lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Michael Johnson, who scored ten points along with three steals and two blocks. Donovan Brewer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Southport struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Southport has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southport will take on Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Northview at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Northview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Saturday.
