WPIAL AAA Northeastern recap October 8, 2013
Mars's Ori Rinaman rumbled for the longest rushing play in WPIAL AAA Northeastern this season in his game against Uniontown last week. Rinaman scampered for 73 yards on the play and finished with 86 on the day as his team bested the Red Raiders.
Greensburg Salem scaled the state rankings by moving to 335 from 390 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Golden Lions were able to move up by besting Indiana 28-21.
Hollidaysburg's dynamic duo of Josh Bickley and Daniel Baker proved tough for Hampton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bickley threw for 242 yards and 1 touchdown and Baker had 106 yards receiving. Greg Dinges helped Hollidaysburg's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 53 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Daniel Farinelli of Knoch is the league leader in passing yards this season with 706. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ryan Waltz. The Hollidaysburg star has 17 catches for 343 yards.
Joshua Schultheis of the Mars is only 92 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 115 carries Schultheis has put up 908 yards this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Golden Tigers' Waltz goes up against Franklin Regional's Colin Jonov.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Scott D Heinauer's team takes on Knoch. As it stands, the Fightin' Planets are in first, while Mike King's team is in fourth.
Hollidaysburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in WPIAL AAA Northeastern. Homer DeLattre's team vanquished the Talbots 17-13 earlier in the week.
