Somerset Academy - Canyons is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Leonard 19-8 on Monday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Ryleigh Singer and Riley Rosenberg were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Singer pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Rosenberg struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Singer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Singer fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5, while Rosenberg scored a run while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave Singer a new career-high.
In other batting news, Somerset Academy - Canyons let Lisa Nguyen and Ava Midgett run wild. Nguyen scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Midgett scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Those four runs gave Nguyen a new career-high. Angela Lopez was another key player, getting no hits from her five at bats.
Somerset Academy - Canyons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Olympic Heights made sure to put some runs up on the board against Atlantic Christian on Tuesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Sharks with a sharp 21-4 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Kaitlyn Courtney made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Courtney was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alexa Andersen and Elsie Throckmorton did most of the damage at the plate: Andersen went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Throckmorton scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That double marked the first that Andersen hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brielle Crawley, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' record now sits at 5-6. As for Olympic Heights, their record is now 7-8.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Somerset Academy - Canyons has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Olympic Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .530. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
