The Wellsville Lions will face off against the Hornell Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wellsville is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Wellsville is returning to their home field after beating Medina on theirs, despite the fact Medina has dominated at home this season. The Lions came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 4-1 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hornell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over Midlakes. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Raiders have posted since May 9, 2024.
Aaron McInerney made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Hornell got a great performance from PJ Picco as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
Back at the plate, Brody Flaitz and Sheamus Khork did most of the damage at the plate: Flaitz went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Khork went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Wellsville's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Hornell, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.
Wellsville took their win against Hornell in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 11-4 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
