The Newtown Nighthawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They received a tough blow as they fell 75-57 to Staples. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Staples was led to victory by Sam Clachko and Adam Udell. Clachko scored 28 points along with five steals, while Udell scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Tobias, who scored eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Newtown's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Staples, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.
Newtown will be home for the holidays to greet Torrington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Torrington is ranked 52nd, while Newtown is ranked 59th). Staples and West Haven will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on December 27th at.
