Shuler Bentley of Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.), John Wolford of Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Trey Quinn of Barbe (Lake Charles, La.) are all on the verge of setting career state records, and they highlight this week's MaxPreps National Player of the Year Watch.

Charlotte Latin limited Grier to his lowest yardage and touchdown totals of the season in defeating Davidson Day 23-22 last week. The loss was the first of the season for Davidson Day with Grier throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Charlotte Latin also picked off Grier three times. Grier did manage to go over 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing on the season, however. He has completed 211 of 310 passes for 3,071 yards and a national best 50 touchdown passes. Grier ran 21 times for 165 yards and a touchdown last week to give him 1,061 yards and nine touchdowns on 89 carries. Grier concludes the regular season against Victory Christian Center this week. Last year Grier threw for 514 yards and seven touchdowns against Victory Christian.
Jake Browning, Folsom (Calif.)

Browning completed 15 of 24 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns in an 80-27 whitewashing of Sheldon (Sacramento, Calif.). The yardage total gives Browning 3,121 yards on the season. He has completed 209 of 277 passes with 43 touchdowns.

Watson and the Red Elephants did not play last week, but they will face Loganville this week in the penultimate game of the regular season. Watson has completed 188 of 260 passes for 2,358 yards and 29 touchdowns. He has 413 yards rushing on 55 carries with six touchdowns. Watson has 15,091 total yards of offense, which would rank fourth all-time, according to the National Federation of High Schools Record Book.
Nick Chubb, Cedartown (Ga.)Chubb went over 200 yards rushing for the sixth time this year, gaining 262 yards on 26 carries with four touchdowns in a 54-28 win over Cass. For the season, Chubb has gained 2,115 yards on 200 carries with 33 touchdowns. Chubb now has 6,391 yards rushing in his career with 95 rushing touchdowns.

After throwing for eight touchdowns in last week's 76-49 win over Mauldin, Bentley has 156 career touchdown passes. He is just one touchdown pass behind state record holder Justin Worley of Northwestern, who had 157 touchdowns. Bentley also threw for 510 yards in the win (30 of 39) and has 3,426 yards on the season while completing 209 of 301 passes. He is tied for the national lead in touchdown passes with Will Grier of Davidson Day with 50.

White had his most productive game of the season in a 55-29 win over Duncanville. Besides rushing 12 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns, White had a season-high 416 yards passing with four touchdowns while completing 22 of 30 passes. For the season, White has completed 139 of 202 passes for 2,295 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has rushed 94 times for 977 yards and 14 scores.
Grant Sherman, Kenton (Ohio)Sherman completed 33 of 53 passes for 385 yards in a 28-14 win over Celina, but he was held without a touchdown pass for just the second time this season. Sherman did have two rushing touchdowns as all of Kenton's touchdowns were scored on the ground. Sherman leads the nation in passing yardage with 3,631 yards. He has completed 268 of 412 passes with 39 touchdowns.

Murray had his best passing game since the season opener with 330 yards (20 of 28) and four touchdowns in a 49-26 win over Boyd (McKinney, Texas). The total is topped only by Murray's 464 yards in the opener against Carroll. For the season, Murray has completed 125 of 188 passes for 2.076 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has also rushed 44 times for 569 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Wolford has Bishop Kenny at 7-0 on the season and he is on the verge of setting a Florida state record for career touchdown passes. After throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns last week in a 42-7 win over Yulee, Wolford has 111 career touchdown passes. He is one behind all-time Florida leader Javan Shashanty of Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who had 112. For the season, Wolford has completed 125 of 188 passes for 2,021 yards and 23 touchdowns. For his career, Wolford has 633 completions in 980 attempts for 9,325 yards and 111 scores.
Trey Quinn, Barbe (Lake Charles, La.)

With 139 yards receiving in Barbe's game against Sulphur this week,
Quinn can become the all-time leader in receiving yardage in Louisiana,
surpassing Evangel Christian's Abram Booty who had 5,867 yards in his
career. Quinn, who has 5,729 yards receiving, already set the state career receptions record several weeks back and has 313 catches. For the season, Quinn has 64 catches for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns.
