Phoenix Christian's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Madison Highland Prep with a sharp 30-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Heat: they've now won five in a row.
Karly Van Metre made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Van Metre was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Hannah Fisher was a standout: she scored five runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brianna Guerrero, who scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Tonopah Valley's offense. They came up short against Yuma Catholic on Thursday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Phoenix's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Tonopah Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Green, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Phoenix Christian's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Tonopah Valley, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-4.
Tonopah Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Phoenix Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Tonopah Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Phoenix Christian keep running through batters, or will Tonopah Valley buck the trend?
