Perry County Central came out on top against Buckhorn on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Commodores blew past the Wildcats 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Commodores, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sheldon Ritchie was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Dylan Elkins was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Noah Watts also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Perry County Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Hazard suffered their closest defeat since May 6, 2025 on Monday. They fell just short of Breathitt County by a score of 7-5.
Jakoby Little made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Hazard: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Clint Davidson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Hazard now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Perry County Central, their record is now 17-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Perry County Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Hazard struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
