Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jarvis Green of
Dutch Fork (Irmo) is the 2022 MaxPreps South Carolina High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11, 185 senior running back helped the Silver Foxes go 14-1 and capture the Class AAAAA state championship, the program's sixth in the past seven seasons.
Green was a versatile offensive threat, rushing for 2,272 yards and 33 touchdowns while catching 36 passes for 527 yards and six touchdowns. He added another 271 yards in the return game.
Against Fort Dorchester in the state championship game, Green ran 23 times for 241 yards and caught three passes for 49 yards while finding the end zone four times in a 47-10 win.
In his four-year Dutch Fork career, Green totaled 4,608 rushing yards and 78 touchdowns. He added over 1,200 yards with 11 touchdowns as a receiver.
Green committed to James Madison in August after fielding offers from 16 schools to continue his career at the next level.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
