Football Recap: St. John's Comes Up Short

St. John lost against Second Baptist back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mavericks were just a hair shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Eagles. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Mavericks still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why St. John's lost, don't look at Hanley Sayers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 272 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. With that strong performance, Sayers is now averaging an impressive 131 rushing yards per game. Shea Quinn was another key player, throwing for 212 yards and a pair of TDs.

St. John's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Second Baptist, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

St. John's has already played their next contest, a 35-21 victory against Lutheran South Academy on the 26th. As for Second Baptist, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 42-17 defeat against Kinkaid on the 26th.
