The Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They fell just short of Washington Township by a score of 52-49. The matchup was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Lake Station Edison couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the loss, Lake Station Edison still got an impressive performance from Areion Head, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 51% of Lake Station Edison's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Davon Jones, who scored 11 points.
Washington Township found their leader in underclassman Rob Mcgowan, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Aiden Armstrong was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Lake Station Edison dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Washington Township, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Station Edison will take on the Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Portage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday. As for Washington Township, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Satellites at 8:00 p.m. Hopefully South Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
