If the Sandia Prep Sundevils were feeling good off their 54-29 takedown of the Legacy Academy Silverbacks last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sandia Prep ended up on the wrong side of a rough 56-32 walloping at the hands of Albuquerque Academy on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Sandia Prep has suffered against Albuquerque Academy since January 7, 2017.
Several Sundevils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddy Weisler, who scored 12 points. Emily Cook was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Albuquerque Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noelani Montoya out in front who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cara Anderson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Sandia Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Albuquerque Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandia Prep will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Laguna Acoma at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Laguna Acoma is ranked 84th, while Sandia Prep is ranked 96th). As for Albuquerque Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Belen at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
