5A Region I District 3 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Don Jerry of Bowie ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region I District 3 this season against Weatherford last week. Jerry scampered for 83 yards on the play and finished with 170 on the day as his team beat the Kangaroos.
Houston moved up to 621 from 678 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Texans were able to make the jump by beating Paschal 35-0.
Arlington's dynamic duo of Connor Huffman and Dontha Robinson proved tough for Martin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Huffman threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns and Robinson had 110 yards receiving. Isaiah Baker helped Arlington's passing attack out by catching one ball for 48 yards.
Corey Prewitt made the biggest impact on defense this week as North Crowley fell to Lamar. The 5-foot-11 senior grabbed four sacks.
Kyle Hicks was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 30 carries, he ran for 212 yards as the Warriors fell to the Warriors. Matt Waller also contributed to the rushing game with 98 yards on the ground.
Arlington's Huffman and Robinson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region I District 3 in both passing and receiving yards. Huffman has thrown for 645 yards this season, while Robinson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 16 catches for 264 yards. Hicks from Martin leads the league in rushing with 593 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Scott Peach's team takes on the Vikings. The Colts are currently in second, while Lamar is in fifth.
Bob Wager's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Arlington 38-28. The Warriors came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 39 last week.
