Centennial has gone 8-2 against Shadow Ridge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. Centennial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Centennial is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Palo Verde, who was ranked fifth at the time (Centennial was ranked fourth). The Bulldogs fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Elijah Wilcut was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Centennial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Terrell Otis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shadow Ridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pahrump Valley by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Spencer Walters looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brayden Leavitt, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Evan Noble was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Shadow Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Shadow Ridge's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.
Centennial couldn't quite get it done against Shadow Ridge in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 11-8. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
