Danbury is 0-10 against Calvert since May of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Lakers will be playing at home against the Senecas at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Danbury turned things around against Monroeville on Thursday. They skirted past the Eagles 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lakers have posted against the Eagles since May 1, 2015.
Danbury let Logan Shepherd and Tyler Harris run wild. Shepherd went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Harris got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Shepherd has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Calvert entered their tilt with New Riegel on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Jackets a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Senecas have won by exactly ten runs.
New Riegel's batters probably weren't too happy with Logan Ritzler, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up zero walks). Ritzler has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Calvert's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was AJ Shoemaker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Calvert pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Danbury, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-13.
Danbury suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Calvert in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Lakers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
