The Pisgah Dragons will take on the Puckett Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Pisgah sitting on six straight wins and Puckett on nine.
Pisgah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mize a 10-0 shutout. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 contests by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Ally Young, who gave up just three hits to keep Mize off the board. Young has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Holeman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie McCurdy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Pisgah hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matches.
Loyd Star typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Puckett proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Hornets 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since April 12th.
Lila Murphy made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Murphy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Hardin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Puckett pushed their record up to 24-7-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Pisgah, their record now sits at 24-8.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pisgah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
