South Plaquemines has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Many Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only South Plaquemines walked away with it. They took down Port Barre 34-16 on Friday.
Zae'sean Riley and Jyheim Williams were among the main playmakers for South Plaquemines as the former rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries and the latter rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Williams really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.
Meanwhile, Many put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Springfield, posting a 61-0 win at home. Given Many's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Springfield is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Plaquemines' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Mentorship Academy and 3-7 Fisher (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). As for Many, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
South Plaquemines couldn't quite finish off Many in their previous meeting back in December of 2020 and fell 2-0. Can South Plaquemines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
