The Midway Green Wave will head out to challenge the Roane County Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Midway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Midway gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Harriman. The win continues a trend for the Green Wave in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won six in a row.

Caiden Brewer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Dawson Buckner was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rowynn McClure, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Midway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harriman only posted a batting average of .323.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roane County). They came out on top against Meigs County by a score of 14-10 on Tuesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Yellowjackets, who until this game were averaging 3.92 runs allowed.
Like Midway, Roane County also got a great game from a two-way player: Carson Ladd. On the mound, Ladd pitched 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Blake Herrell struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Ladd has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ladd went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Herrell went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Aaron Layne was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Keylon White also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Roane County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. The win got Midway back to even at 7-7.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Midway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Roane County struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midway suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Roane County in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can Midway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
