Elkins has gone 9-1 against Preston recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Tigers will take on the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Elkins barely beat Pendleton County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Wildcat on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Wildcat: they've now won four in a row.
Elkins got a big performance out of Braden Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Cooper has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Blayne Thompson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Elkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Preston earned a 7-4 victory over East Fairmont on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Wyatt Moyer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Preston: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. Bryson McNew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Preston now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Elkins, their record is now 4-15.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Elkins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Preston struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elkins came out on top in a nail-biter against Preston when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
