Baseball Game Preview: Smith County Owls vs. Upperman Bees

The Smith County Owls are taking a road trip to take on the Upperman Bees at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Smith County will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Last Tuesday, Smith County got the win against Monterey by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Bennett Gammon made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Morgan Sinclair was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Max Long was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Smith County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Upperman entered their contest against Watertown on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Bees fell 6-1 to the Purple Tigers. Bees fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Purple Tigers since on Thursday.

Upperman saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alec Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Upperman's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Smith County, their record now sits at 13-3.

Smith County might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Upperman when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
