The Gates County Red Barons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 27 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 53-18 stomp they got on the road against Holmes. That looming 53-18 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Gates County yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gates County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zebriya Woodley, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Kyndall Banks was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is A'Ziyah Eason. Despite the final result, she scored three points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
The win (which was Gates County's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Holmes, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Gates County and Hertford County will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Hopefully Hertford County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Friday. As for Holmes, they will head out on the road to face off against Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on January 4th. Northeastern presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Holmes in North Carolina (Northeastern is ranked 47th, while Holmes is ranked 247th).
