Block Island is 8-2 against Hope since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Block Island on the road again and play against the Hope Blue Wave at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Block Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on January 6th.
While Block Island couldn't quite beat Central on January 6th, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 44-point defeat they were dealt back in December of 2023. Block Island fell just short of Central by a score of 27-25.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Haley Conant, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and six blocks. Cora Ryan was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Hope had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They managed a 32-27 victory over Blackstone Valley Prep.
Hope found their leader in underclassman Jorday Johnson, who scored 16 points.
Block Island now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Hope, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-4.
Block Island was able to grind out a solid win over Hope in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 29-19. Does Block Island have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hope turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
