After flying high against the Jefferson County Tigers last Friday, the Wakulla War Eagles came back down to earth. Wakulla received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 33-19 to Maclay. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wakulla of the 50-42 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Wakulla saw an underclassman step up: Victoria Proulx scored nine points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Proulx posted two or more blocks. Xzaveria Robinson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Maclay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lauren Guyer led the charge by scoring 13 points. Another player making a difference was Aleeza Moore, who scored nine points.
Wakulla has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Maclay, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakulla will take on St. John Paul II at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (St. John Paul II is ranked 585th, while Wakulla is ranked 573rd). As for Maclay, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Sneads at 5:00 p.m.
