The Martin County Gators will venture away from home to take on the Northside - Pinetown Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Martin County will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Martin County needed a bit of extra time to put away Farmville Central. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Jaguars. Fans of the Gators have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Easton Warren made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Colin Lewis was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Brody Whitaker was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Martin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Northside - Pinetown was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 12-2 to Ayden - Grifton. The Panthers have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Martin County's record now sits at 4-0. As for Northside - Pinetown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Everything went Martin County's way against Northside - Pinetown when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Martin County made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
