The Ganado Hornets struggled with assists on Thursday (the Thoreau Hawks had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Ganado was dealt a 84-49 defeat at the hands of Thoreau. While losing is never fun, Ganado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 226th in Arizona, while Thoreau is ranked 67th in New Mexico).
Oraias Begay and Grant Paddock certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Begay scored ten points, while Paddock scored ten points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Ganado struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Thoreau was led to victory by Stetson Perry and Taven Tahe. Perry scored 22 points, while Tahe scored 19 points along with six assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Isaac Bear Eagle, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Ganado and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Thoreau, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Ganado will be playing at home against Zuni at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Thoreau won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rehoboth Christian at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. Rehoboth Christian and Thoreau are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
