Matt Maxon gave up the fewest walks he has since back in March on Thursday. As a matter of fact, he turned in his biggest game of the season, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He is becoming a predictor of Carmel's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

Maxon's strong effort led Carmel over Palma and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Padres will be headed into this one with a sizable disadvantage in the rankings (they're ranked 129 places lower in California), but they're not letting that get them down.
