Point Loma hasn't had much luck against Clairemont recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Point Loma will look to defend their home field against Clairemont at 6:00 p.m. Point Loma is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Point Loma will bounce into Thursday's game after beating University City, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Point Loma put the hurt on University City with a sharp 10-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Pointers have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ryoko Schroth was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Avery MacPherson was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Siena Balistreri was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .409 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Clairemont didn't have quite enough to beat West Hills on Tuesday and fell 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Chieftains have lost by just one run.
Ava Cain made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Finley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
Point Loma's victory bumped their record up to 10-2-1. As for Clairemont, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Point Loma hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Clairemont struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
