The Old Town Coyotes will head out on the road to take on the Bangor Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Old Town's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Bangor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Old Town earned a 4-1 victory over John Bapst Memorial. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Coyotes.
Arabel Milligan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lindsay Mockler, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Sirois, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Bangor faced Skowhegan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Rams walked away with a 5-2 win over the River Hawks. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Bangor also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emma Tripp gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Tripp has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabby Goding was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Sophie Lynch was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Old Town pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average this season. As for Bangor, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Everything went Old Town's way against Bangor when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Old Town made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coyotes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
