The Baker County Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Providence School Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Baker County has seven straight wins, Providence School has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Providence School's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Baker County hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Baker County came out on top against Fort White by a score of 3-0 on Friday.
Not much got past Grace Masterson, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Fort White off the board. Masterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Baker County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Walker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Walker has posted since back in March of 2024. Aubrey Worthington also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Providence School started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Middleburg. They lost 18-5 to the Broncos on Friday.
Summer Stearns made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Elle Burns, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Providence School's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Baker County, they pushed their record up to 7-0-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Baker County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Providence School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Baker County took their win against Providence School in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baker County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
