The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. Their rough 48-22 defeat to Lewis-Palmer might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Cheyenne Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Lewis-Palmer is ranked 59th).
Despite the defeat, Cheyenne Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Lucy Trunnell scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trunnell has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cheyenne Mountain struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lewis-Palmer racked up 14 assists.
Lewis-Palmer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addison Kenley, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Lane, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Cheyenne Mountain bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Lewis-Palmer, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheyenne Mountain will take on Air Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Air Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Lewis-Palmer, they will be playing at home against Palmer Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Palmer Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday.
