The Charleston Math & Science Riptide's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Military Magnet Academy, falling 89-25. Charleston Math & Science has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Charleston Math & Science lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Peyton Webb, who scored 13 points. Dalailyn Reed was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Military Magnet Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dream Watson, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine steals. Watson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Willis, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Charleston Math & Science's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Military Magnet Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charleston Math & Science will challenge the Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. John's is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Military Magnet Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the NaviGators at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Lowcountry Leadership will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Eagles are ranked 34th).
