Despite the defeat, St. John Paul II Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Janey Lopez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ivonne Ramirez, who scored five points along with 13 rebounds.
St. John Paul II Catholic's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6. As for Phoenix Christian, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II Catholic and Heritage Academy will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heritage Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Phoenix Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Highland Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Highland Prep is ranked 230th, while Phoenix Christian is ranked 219th).
