South Webster is a perfect 3-0 against Dawson-Bryant since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Jeeps will head out to square off against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. South Webster will be strutting in after a win while Dawson-Bryant will be coming in after a defeat.
South Webster took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Belpre. The win was some much needed relief for the Jeeps as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jaiden White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Addi Claxon was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Lauren Kaltenbach was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after a string of 13 wins, Dawson-Bryant's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Raceland by a score of 1-0. The shutout was out of character for the Hornets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Dawson-Bryant also let their pitcher toss all 7.1 innings and she was also dialed-in: Abbie Deeds gave up only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Deeds has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.
Dawson-Bryant's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for South Webster, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Webster has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dawson-Bryant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Webster was able to grind out a solid win over Dawson-Bryant in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 7-2. Will the Jeeps repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
