Basketball Recap: Westlake's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westlake). They blew past the Patuxent Panthers 78-33 on Wednesday. The Wolverines pushed the score to 64-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had no chance of recovering from.

Westlake's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darius Kemper, who made all 7 shots he took to post 17 points and four steals. Kemper has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrek Jordan, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

Westlake was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Patuxent's loss came despite strong showings from Kamauri Jones and Shane Lawrernce. Jones went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points, while Lawrernce posted no points.

The win snapped Westlake's losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 2-9 record. As for Patuxent, their loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westlake will venture away from home to square off against Leonardtown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent has already played their next game (against McDonough), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
